Vinegar & Health

(This web site is intended for entertainment only.  It is not intended to take the place of medical advice from your physician)

The following treatments are tried and true, but they don't cover all the incredible ways vinegar can heal and treat your body.

Unless otherwise stated, the treatments listed below call for apple cider vinegar, which is readily available in your grocery store.

Here are some helpful tips for your health...

Acne - To get rid of unsightly blemishes, mix one part vinegar with 10 parts water and put in a clean glass bottle.  After washing your face as usual, dab the solution on your spots with a cotton ball.  You can do this several times a day without drying out your skin.  Vinegar helps adjust the pH balance in your skin, thereby treating and preventing new breakouts.

Athlete's Foot - Before going to bed, soak your feet in vinegar for several minutes.  Although it may sting at first, it isn't severe and the discomfort will pass quickly.  Afterwards, soak a sock in a mixture of two parts water and one part vinegar and place it on your foot.  Keep it on for 30 minutes, then remove and pat your foot dry.  Repeat the process the next morning and continue until the infection is gone.

Backache - Add two cups of vinegar to a hot tub and relax for thirty minutes.

Bad Breath - Simply rinse your mouth and gargle with a solution of half vinegar and half water.

Bee Stings & Bug Bites - Make a thick paste of cornstarch and vinegar and apply it to the itchy, irritated area.  As it dries, the paste pulls the poison out of the skin, relieving the pain and preventing swelling.

Body Odor - Vinegar makes a great natural deodorant.   That's because its acidity kills the bacteria that causes the odor to appear in the first place.  Mix equal amounts vinegar and water and dab it under your arms with a cotton ball.  Let it dry completely.  You may smell like a pickle for a few minutes, but that will disappear quickly.

Bruises - Dip a clean cloth into a bowl of chilled vinegar and apply to the bruise.  Some folk healers swear that the healing process will speed up if you soak a slice of thick onion in the vinegar and then apply it directly to the bruise.

Burns - Soak a piece of clean cloth in chilled vinegar and apply it to the burn.  Repeat the process every 15 minutes until pain subsides.   (NOTE: For severe burns, see a doctor immediately.)

Corns & Calluses - Soak a small cloth or cotton ball with vinegar and apply it to the corn or callus.  Tape it in place with a bandage and leave on overnight.  By morning, the area should be clear.

Coughing - Make your own cough syrup by adding equal parts honey and vinegar to a bottle, than shake to mix.  Take one tablespoon every four hours as needed.

Cramps - Apply full strength vinegar to the cramping area with a soft cloth.  The pain should subside within seconds.  To prevent those painful leg cramps that spring up unexpectedly in the middle of the night, drink a glass of water to which one tablespoon vinegar has been added with your dinner.
