When it comes to easing minor aches and pains, baking soda is a must
in your medicine chest. Most of the home remedies below are applied externally
tot he skin. Before taking baking soda internally, check with a doctor.
Patients who are on a salt-restricted diet should not use baking soda.
Acne - Mix equal parts baking soda and water to form a paste.
Apply to the pimples and gently rub with a clean, damp washcloth. Rinse with
clean water and pat dry.
Bladder Infection - Temporarily relieve the burning sensation
of a bladder infection by taking a bath to which a cup of baking soda has been added.
Acid Burns - Baking soda is a highly effective remedy for
acid burns - those caused by battery acid, drain openers and toilet bowl cleaners.
Immediately flush the area with cold water, then neutralise the burn by gently sprinkling
on baking soda.
Other Burns - Apply a cold cloth that's been dipped in ice
water and baking soda to the affected area. Keep it in place until the area no
longer feels hot. This helps prevent blisters from forming.
Canker Sores - Relieve the pain of the sore with baking soda
mouthwash. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water, stir and rinse out
your mouth.
Chicken Pox and Measles - Take a baking soda bath to relieve
the skin irritation caused by measles and chicken pox. Add half a box to lukewarm
both water and sit in the tub for 10 minutes.
Heartburn - Take half a teaspoon of baking soda in half a
glass of water to relieve acid indigestion or heartburn.
Note: Baking Soda contains sodium and is not
recommended for those on a salt-restricted diet. |
