Are You Sitting On A Nail?
Did you know that only 5 out of a hundred people who join affiliate programs ever make any
money from them? Does that sound a lot like trying to get the wheels to align themselves
in a slot machine so you can get a payout?
Well, they may sound familiar but there is a difference. You have no control over the
inner functions of a slot machine, but you can do something about your affiliate business
to increase your chance of making an income from it. There is a reason why one affiliate
makes
nothing and another, with equal talent and abilities goes on to make a fortune.
Most affiliates are simply afraid to get off the fence and start playing. Everyone knows
that a slot machine will remain silent unless someone drops a quarter into the coin slot
and pulls the lever, or presses a button. Surprisingly most affiliates don’t even put
a quarter into their business but expect it to cough up thousands of dollars for them. It
never happens. Unfortunately, the hype of easy money and the word “free” leads
them to believe they can get something with little or no effort. This mentality has
ingrained itself in the minds of too many. That alone explains why most affiliates make
nothing from their online enterprise.
There are several other factors besides the belief of easy money. The stress of daily life
leaves little room to sit down in front of the computer to post some ads to ezines and
keep abreast of changes made by the affiliate head office. “No time, no money”
is a standard cry by many. Still, there are those who are in similar situations, but still
manage to find both time and money to do their business part-time.
It’s not so much the lack of time, energy or money as it is with the lack of
incentive. There are good affiliate programs out there. But none
of them will do anything for someone who isn’t willing to forego their favorite TV
program to market their business. Understanding the program is one way to get the
incentive you need to get going. Most new affiliates don’t do the basic things as to
study the nuances of their
affiliate program. Failing to understand it means they can’t convince anyone to join
it.
The desire to change is evident in those people who are busy marketing their programs.
There is the story of a man who moved into a new
neighborhood and took to walking to work every day. The neighborhood had an abundance of
dogs that would bark every time he walked past every home. Except for one place. The dog
in this home always whined and whimpered. Finally, his curiosity peeked, the man decided
to inquire about the dog. The owner told him bluntly that the dog was always sitting on a
nail. Why didn’t the dog move off the nail and to another side of the porch? Because,
the owner replied, the nail just didn’t hurt the dog enough.
A lot of affiliates are like that dog. They want to change and have more money and
freedom, but the fear of getting off the nail might lead to a more painful existence.
Unless the pain does get severe enough they won’t move. In the above example, the dog
on the nail doesn’t realize that his fear is an illusion. He could be with the other
dogs, doing what dogs do best. And so can we. Our fears are often illusions and keep us
back from achieving.
What it takes is to make the first start. If a lot of affiliates did this, the statistics
of 5 out of a hundred succeeding in business might well be reversed.
Do you really want to succeed? Is the pain strong enough to move you? If you are in an
affiliate program, it’s likely you joined so you could make money with it. Are you
making any money? If you’ve been involved with a program for the last six months and
haven’t seen a dollar come out of it, maybe it’s time for you to get off the
nail and start barking. Remember that the world listens to a barking dog but shuns a
whiner. Make sure you’re not sitting on a nail.
